Thalland, Gebling & Frechau
The grapes for our regional wine come from vineyards including Gebling, Frechau, and Thalland. The Gebling vineyard was first documented in 1284. Wines from Gebling are mineral-driven, powerful, and expressive. The soil consists of weathered, calcareous conglomerate, partially covered by loess, which in turn has a local layer of gravel. The Frechau vineyard forms a west-east trending ridge; the vineyards face southeast and lie on multi-layered loess deposits that can be up to 20 meters thick. The Thalland vineyard is very similar to Frechau in terms of soil characteristics, but with a slightly higher gravel content due to its somewhat lower elevation.
