Loiben Loibenberg

The parent rock for these high dry stone terraces is Gföhl gneiss, a metamorphic rock formed from an acidic, granite-like parent rock. The sandy-stony soil promotes drainage and facilitates root growth. Loess and Danube gravel formations are found at the foot of the Loibenberg, while pure granite is exposed in places at the summit.
